Filed against the matter, isolated for your firm
Keep the documents with the work.
File documents against clients and matters, retain earlier versions and control viewing and management permissions. Document storage is included in the standard plan.
Filing that follows the work
A store per client and matter.
Documents are filed against a client and a matter rather than into a folder path, which means they are found the way people ask for them — by the matter, not by remembering who saved it and where.
- Versioning. Uploading again creates a version; earlier versions stay retrievable.
- Permission-aware access. Viewing and managing documents are separate grants. Confirm the permissions required for confidential matters during evaluation.
- One store for everything. Matter documents, expense receipts and rendered invoices sit in the same place, so producing a bill exactly as it was issued three years ago is retrieval rather than reconstruction.
A shared drive with a naming convention works until somebody leaves.
Where the files sit
Inside your private storage boundary.
The file store is pluggable. A smaller private instance can use a dedicated volume; a larger one can use isolated object storage with its own retention and recovery rules. The location and backup boundary are recorded before go-live rather than hidden behind a generic cloud label.
AntChambers operates the store, but the documents remain inside the firm’s dedicated instance and are not pooled with another firm’s files. The firm owns the records, and a complete export is produced on request.
Included capacity
Storage with a clear allowance.
The standard plan includes 50 GB of document storage, including document versions. Service backups do not count towards this allowance. An extra 50 GB costs ₹6,000/year, prorated to your renewal date; GST is additional.
Historical document migration is separately quoted. A standard database and document export is included and provided within ten working days of an authorised request, subject to the agreed transition process.
What this is not
An honest boundary.
This is a document store attached to a practice-management system, and it is the right answer for a firm currently running on a shared drive. It is not a specialist legal DMS: there is no full-text search across a decade of archives, no email filing from Outlook, and no automated retention schedule.
If you already run a system that does those things well, run it alongside. Being clear about the edge is more useful to you than a feature list that implies otherwise.
Questions this raises
Straight answers.
Where are the files actually stored?
Inside document storage dedicated to your firm’s managed instance. AntChambers operates it in the region recorded in the order and security schedule, with the agreed backup and retention terms. The firm retains ownership and an export route.
Does it version documents?
Yes. A new upload of the same document creates a version rather than overwriting, and earlier versions stay retrievable.
Can we control who sees a document?
Viewing and managing documents are separate permission grants. Review the access model with your team during evaluation; do not assume that filing a document under a matter creates an additional matter-specific access restriction.
Does it replace our document management system?
For most firms it replaces a shared folder tree, which is what they actually have. If you run a dedicated legal DMS with matter-centric filing and full-text search across decades of archive, keep it — AntChambers stores what belongs to the live matter and the billing record.
What about receipts and invoices?
They use the same store. Expense receipts and rendered invoices are held alongside matter documents, which is why an invoice can be produced years later exactly as it was issued.
